Pistons THE dominant Eastern Conference Team?

I have to admit I had my doubts about the Pistons being top dog before they beat the Boston Celtics...and I still do. The Cavaliers driven by the more than perfect play of Lebron James were the Conference Champions after all. The Magic now have, arguable, the most dominant Big man in the NBA. The Celtic were the hottest team in the NBA. The Pistons were has-beens, old news, a forgotten story - they couldnt even be close to the elite of the East. That was of course until last night when the Pistons made a statement, a very weak one

Though they struggled in the first half, the Pistons had a strong second half spurred by the three point shooting of Rasheed Wallace and Richard Hamilton as well as the solid play of Chauncey Billups who score 12 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter as well as made the big play for the go ahead free throws with virtually no time left.
Typically, the real drama was in the final two minutes with the Pistons taking a late 3 point lead followed by an unlikely three point shot from Ray Allen that went through the bottom of the net. Tied at 85 both team failed to make plays that would have given them the win. But with 20 seconds Chauncey Billups made a pump fake on a 18-foot jumper to get the ice-cold Tony Allen into the air and draw the fould. Not even retarded chimpanzee could have have written a more anti-climatic ending. In the end the Pistons demonstrated their dominance in the second half but the result was a 87-85 victory...really too close to call. For now we'll call them THE team in the Eastern Conference but dont be surprised when the Pistons face the Celtics again in January if the Celtics decide blow the competition away.

WOW! where do I start?
First of all how can you say that the pistons were "has beens" and "couldn't even be close to the elite of the east"... and all because they won in a thriller against the celtics they are all of a sudden "THE" team of the Eastern conference. I'm sorry but you are wrong. Let us not forget that celtics, though i'm not trying to discredit them, has had the easiest schedule of all teams in the nba thus far. Secondly Pistons is a great veteran basketball team that has been playing together for a long time. Lets also not forget that they have been to the conference finals everytime for the past 4 years. There even off to a good start this season and are looking like they may even make the conference final once again.
Secondly i really don't see the pistons getting blown out by the celtics when they face each other again in january. The pistons are too good of a team, and too experienced a team for that to happen.
And lastly you can not judge a teams dominance over a conference so early in the season (its just the quarter mark)and primarily on their performance in one game

princeruss is right...you are incorrect for thinking the pistons 'has beens' and you're guilty of just following the hype in basketball instead of being an avid fan,- yes i'm challenging your fanhood. if you were paying close attention to all the teams you would have realized that the pistons were STILL playing great basketball and hence the 'hype' around their matchup. you are also very incorrect to name them 'THE' team in the east because of ONE VICTORY - that is simply ludicrous. You are usuing ONE game to basically judge a (short) season of performances. The Magics have also beaten the Celtics, did THAT make them THE team in the East? clearly it is WAY too early to sit and make judgements on the teams so far as it is clearly obvious that the league is a bit more even now (no team is dominating - boston has had the easiest schedule). Not even a 'retarded chimpanzee' would be so bold.
